01Overview

Business background

Audience

Direct-to-consumer shoppers aged 25–45 across North America.

Model

Shopify Plus, single storefront, seasonal drops with an evergreen core.

Market

Competitive mid-market apparel with strong branded search but weak category authority.

Objectives

  • Reduce blended CAC over four quarters
  • Establish collection pages as consistent revenue drivers

02What was holding growth back

The challenge

Flat category architecture

Collections were built ad-hoc per drop, with no consistent template, breadcrumbs, or internal linking pattern.

Thin metadata and duplicate content

Title tags followed a single template. Similar collections competed for the same query.

No measurement of organic performance

GA4 events were partially configured. Attribution to organic landing pages was unclear.

03The insight

Discovery & analysis

What we reviewed

  • Site structure and internal linking
  • Metadata across 400+ products and 60 collections
  • GA4 configuration and Search Console coverage
  • Historic performance by landing page

Key findings

  • Roughly 40% of collections had no unique intro content
  • Internal linking was concentrated in the main navigation only
  • Structured data was missing on product and collection pages

Business priorities

  • Fix category IA before adding new content
  • Rebuild metadata templates per collection archetype
  • Instrument measurement before scaling

04Guided by the Orbit Growth OS

The approach

  1. 1Discover

    Business & catalog framing

Mapped collections to demand clusters and defined the collection archetypes.

  2. 2Audit

    Technical & content audit

Reviewed crawlability, indexing, metadata, and internal linking.

  3. 3Analyze

    Opportunity sizing

Ranked collections by search volume, current position, and conversion potential.

  4. 4Prioritize

    Sequenced roadmap

Grouped work into an IA sprint, a metadata sprint, and a content sprint.

  5. 5Implement

    Template & content build

Rebuilt collection templates and rolled out unique intros for priority collections.

  6. 6Measure

    Instrument & baseline

Configured GA4 events, Search Console segments, and a weekly organic dashboard.

05What we built

The experience

SEO

New collection template with intro content, breadcrumb schema, and consistent metadata patterns.

Development

Theme changes to expose curated internal linking blocks and structured data.

Analytics

GA4 event coverage for landing → product → cart, Search Console → BigQuery pipeline.

06Described honestly

Outcomes

Non-branded organic sessions

Meaningful uplift

Measured across the 12 priority collections vs. same period prior year.

Collection pages ranking on page 1

Notable expansion

Tracked in Search Console for target query set.

Paid dependency

Reduced

Blended CAC improved as organic share of sessions grew.

Metrics are described qualitatively to avoid overstatement. Exact figures are shared under NDA with prospective clients where appropriate.

Orbit gave us a system, not a list of tasks. We now have a clear way to launch collections that pull their own weight.

07Takeaways you can apply

What changed

  • 01

Category architecture compounds. Fix structure before scaling content.

  • 02

One collection template is easier to iterate than sixty bespoke pages.

  • 03

You cannot improve what you do not measure — instrument before optimizing.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How long did the SEO work take to show impact?+

Meaningful movement typically appears 8–12 weeks after implementation for competitive queries. Instrumentation was in place from week 3.

Was existing content rewritten or removed?+

We consolidated a small number of overlapping collections and rewrote priority intros. Most content was preserved and improved in place.
